The Stages

So, this is so true especially the "comfortable stage". Every relationship goes through all these stages, no matter what and I truly feel it while I was watching the clip.

Come to think of it, if every couple could go through the tolerate part, there won't be unhappy break ups. How each stage develops eventually depends on each individual. Apologies are important in every relationship, the word 'sorry' could probably change your life.

Which stages are you in now?
Think carefully & act wisely!

A great HIT to the economy

The question remains as to whether the global economy will go into a recession in the near future. With the price increase in everything, fuel subsidy reduction plus the hike in electricity this coming July, I believe Malaysian are now faced with super tough times as their lifestyles and spending patterns greatly take a hit!

Below are just some suggestions from Marina Mahathir, which is very true. She has got my full support on most of the points. Enclosed with the original version of her article for your reading pleasure.

You walk the talk first

Musings
By MARINA MAHATHIR

The Government wants us to change our lifestyles to cope with inflation. It is easier said than done since most people were having it difficult even before the hikes. The Government must first set an example by doing things it should have done long ago.

WITH the recent hike in fuel prices and the Government’s exhortations for us to change our lifestyles in order to cope, may I provide here some suggestions for the Government and those who work for it to “share our burden”.

1. Stop having meetings, especially out at resorts, far enough away to be able to claim transport allowances. Have online meetings instead or teleconferences. Use Skype or chat.

2. No need to order special pens, bags, T-shirts, notepads and other goodies for those same meetings.

3. No need to order kuih for mid-morning or teatime meetings in government offices, or nasi briyani lunches for those meetings that happen to end just at lunchtime.

4. Cancel all trips for government servants to conferences overseas unless they return with full reports of what they did there, who they met and what they learnt and how they mean to apply what they learnt at home. Ask them to do presentations to colleagues who did not get to go, on the most interesting and important papers that they read.

5. Scrutinise invoices for contracts to make sure they are truly reflective of what those projects or supplies cost.

6. Stop elaborate launches for government programmes. In particular, stop the buying of souvenirs, special batik shirts, corsages, bouquets and caps.

7. Make all civil servants and politicians travel economy class. That means really travelling at the back of the plane and not buying full fare economy class tickets that allow them to be upgraded to Business Class.

8. Stop having the full complement of police escorts to cut down on petrol costs. If they need to be somewhere by a certain time, start earlier like the rest of us. Wouldn’t be a bad thing for them to also experience a traffic jam.

9. Once a week (or more), have ministers use public transport so they know what everyone else has to suffer. This might provide them with the incentive to improve them.

10. Once a week, let ministers go to a market to buy food for their families with instructions to not spend more than RM100.

11. Get ministers to carpool. They might get more work done just by being able to talk to each other to see what can be coordinated between their ministries. For instance, the Ministers of Health and Women could discuss what to do about women’s health issues in the car on the way to work. Maybe have a secretary to travel in the front seat to take down notes on what was discussed. By the time they get to their offices, things can get implemented.

12. Once a month, get civil servants to work with one disadvantaged group in order to be better able to appreciate their problems. It could be blind people one month, hearing disabled people the next, orang asli the following month and people living with HIV/AIDS after that.

We could start buddy systems which pair one civil servant with one disadvantaged person and at the end of it, ask each pair to make recommendations on how to make life better for each other. This might get rid of the problem of desk jockeys, people who never stray very far from their desks yet make policies for people they know nothing about.

13. Have PA systems that shout out the name of the officers who have to serve people at government offices so that people get the services they came for and don’t have to keep coming back just because the officer was out having coffee.

No counter should be left unmanned for more than five minutes before the officer is paged to go back to their stations. This should cut down waiting time for the public and save them transport costs in having to keep returning just to get one thing done.

14. Government officers who lose people’s files should be fined and have their names publicised for being careless and causing inconvenience to the public. Instead of making the public travel to their offices several times to deal with their problems, they should travel to go see their client and deal with it right there and then.

And every officer who goes out of the office should be given a reasonable time to get his work done after which he is expected back in office so he doesn't waste time doing something else.

15. And newspapers should save paper by reporting real news rather than non-news that they carry, particularly nonsensical utterances by politicians.

As they say, we need to do this all together in order to make a difference. So if the Government and politicians make these lifestyle changes, I will do my part and change mine.

Thank You.

However, I personally feel uncomfortable with point 1 & 3. With this economy downturn in mind, I'm actually anticipating a great loss in our hotel business as government & some of the corporate companies will definitely cut cost by slashing all the events or seminars to be done in hotels or resorts. This would greatly affect our service points & bonus end of the year, the suffers go back to us as an employee working in the hotel industry.

Tips on Saving Petrol

Drive Smoothly
Avoid accelerating or braking too hard.

Use Higher Gear
The higher the gear you drive in, the lower your engine speed is, which can improve fuel efficiency.

Tune & Service Your Engine
A well-tune engine can improve fuel economy change your oil and follow your car manufacturer’s recommendation on servicing.

Keep Your Tyres at the Right Pressure
Tyres under-inflated by just 1 psi can reduce fuel efficiency by as much as 3%. An under or over-inflated tyre is also more susceptible to failing.

Avoid Carrying Excess Weight
For every extra 45kg you carry, your fuel efficiency can drop by 1% to 2%. So keep your boot or back seat clear of unnecessary items that just add weight to your vehicle.

Keep the Windows Closed
Wind blowing through an open window will slow you down.

Take The Roof Rack Off

If you are not using your roof rack then remove it. The roof racks affect the aerodynamic efficiency of your vehicle and create drag, reducing fuel economy by as much as 5%.

Use the Correct Oil
Always use the recommended grade of motor oil. Using the manufacturer’s recommended lubricant can improve fuel efficiency by 1% or 2%. Higher quality motor oils can also help your engine operate more efficiency.

Cruise Control
Using cruise control on major roads helps you maintain a constant speed and, in many cases, will improve fuel consumption.

Avoid Excess Idling
Idling gets you nowhere but still burns fuel. Turn the engine off when you are in a queue or waiting for someone.

Petrol Hike -- It's RM2.70 now!

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Wednesday announced price hikes for petrol, diesel and electricity.

He said the new price for petrol is RM2.70 a litre, effective midnight tonight. The price goes up by 78sen from the current RM1.92, a hike of 40%.

Abdullah also announced that the price of diesel would be increased by RM1 from RM1.58 to RM2.58.

He also said that Tenaga Nasional Bhd would be raising electricity rates by 18% for homes and 26% for business users.

The announcements are part of the new fuel subsidy plan --- BULLSHIT!

Source: The Star.

I think by now, everyone knew what happened. The fuel has increase by RM0.78, it's TM2.70 per liter now! Along my way to the carpark to pick up my car today, colleagues were telling me to fuel up my tank by 12 midnight, I just smiled & nodded my head. The government has already decided to increase the petrol price, it's already the fact & what can we do? Even if you fuel up your tank today, what about tomorrow? the day after tomorrow? Will that tank of petrol last forever? Anyway, when I got up to my car before I started my engine, I still checked my petrol tank, it's damn FULL, dad just pumped it up for me yesterday ... how lucky am I *wink*

I don't know about other areas, but there was a massive jam along the Penampang Road the entire evening, cars lined up at the petrol station for fuel. My dad was sitting at one of the coffee shop at the road side & witnessed the real situation of the immediate consequences of this time petrol hike. I've never seen such thing happen in my life before, all sort of cars came out in droves tonight, heading to any petrol station you could find in town. Obviously, these peoples are rushing like mad for the last drop of cheap fuel! The issue here is, is that worth to join this stupid crowd to line up for the petrol fuel at the middle of the night? Put it this way, after you fuel up your tank to the max, you're stuck at the petrol station for hours before you can get home. Does that full tank of petrol worth the time & energy involved here? Even my 16-year old niece can think it this way, why can't those people think logically?

Everything is increasing! The petrol price increase today, at the same time TNB also announced a massive raise! I believe many other stuffs around us gonna have a super big hike very soon in the near future. BUT ... OUR SALARY IS NOT INCREASING AT ALL! How fair is our government? You'll know!

Malaysia is a surplus oil producing nation, why are we paying RM2.70 per litre today? There's no reason why we cannot maintain as low as what Brunei is doing, if I'm not mistaken, their prices have been pretty low since many years ago.

Basically, there’s no logic to this if the government sincerely heed the needs of our people in Malaysia.
People, please take this into consideration during the next election, which is when? I don't know ... But I'm sure you'll know your choice by now. Wouldn't you want to live harmony & happily under a good leader?

There's no end ... there'll be more & more price increasing issue coming up!

And ... It's 12:10am now! Congratulation to all Malaysian ... the petrol price has officially increased, you're now paying RM2.70 per liter. Quick ... be the first to pump your petrol at this new great price!!!

And ... And ... I have to get my panda sleep now ... good night to Malaysia!

Airlines War

I guess this is the Hottest topic in town now – the price war between the major airlines in Malaysia. I’ve got an email from Air Asia again this morning and I finally decided to blog about this WAR. I'm sure most of you have known about this news, it’s been one week people talking about it, MAS is running this Everyday Low Fares campaign. Somehow Air Asia has countered Malaysia Airline’s Zero Fare campaign claiming that their cheapest air ticket still costs less than the national carrier’s latest product that was launched earlier. These offers come few days after MAS came out with its Zero Fare campaign.

It started with MAS going the “Air Asia” way, by offering FREE Seats i.e. ‘Everyday Low Fares’

Then came Air Asia by offering their ‘Even Lower Than 0 Fare’ campaign.

A few days later, I received emails from Air Asia again by offering rates below the FREE Seats in their Sub Zero Programme

And … NOW!

Fire Fly is showing you that buying FREE Seats from them is cheaper than Sub Zero!

This price war reminds me of Maxis & Digi war! Think it this way, who would benefit from all these wars? Consumer will be the biggest winner! Amazing … ^_^

Air Asia’s CEO Datuk Tony Fernandes even fought back by saying Air Asia will pay the difference to any of his passengers if they can find any MAS airfare that is lower than the cheapest offered by Air Asia.

For me, in spite of paying low fares, passengers still enjoy MAS’ full services, including refreshment on board, on-time departures, 20kg baggage allowance and even pre-allocated seats while you make your online booking. A choice between a high quality value carrier which they promise to provide 5 Star service at a very low price and a typical budgeted airlines where you have to pay extra for your meal on board, lesser baggage allowance, typical low class service on board and super inconvenience schedule which they can change or even cancel your flight within 24 hours.

Which one would you choose?

And if you guys ever notice the advertisement war between MAS & Air Asia recently while MAS launched their Everyday Low Fares campaign. The advertisement sarcastically made use of Air Asia’s red to promote their FREE seats while at the bottom of the ad, it was a tearing-off kind of effect, showing MAS’s blue instead of red, telling people that this is MAS NOT Air Asia. This kind of advertisement war is interesting … If you guys still remember, there was another advertisement war between these 2 major airlines 2 years ago
MAS 25 reasons vs. Air Asia’s 1 reason. Check it out … you’ll find it’s much more funny than this price war.

Hmmm …. I’m still thinking whether to join the crowd and get myself a free trip down to KL for shopping or not.

Room Theft Suspect!

Dear All ...

Culprit found in our Hotel!

These are pictures taken from our CCTV of a suspect who confidently walked into a guest room while the Housekeeping is cleaning the room. He pretended to collect “his” laptop, which was left in the room. However, the original owner of the laptop made a complaint after that. We’ve lodged a police report & this case is now under Police Investigation. Should anyone know the whereabouts of this culprit, please assist in reporting it to the police! Thanks!

look at him ... he looks so confident in the picture ... so daring!
