Empowering yourself via colours

Read something from the newspaper today, thought it’s pretty good to share around. It’s very true that we only have one chance to make a good impression to others among the society. One’s first impression is formed through our senses within the first 4 seconds upon contact. And that’s why, I always dress up nicely and make sure I’m in good condition at all time, because I might have chances to meet up with anyone at anytime. I always believe that when you create a good image, it lends you power and in return you’ll gain respect and acceptance from those you interact with.

The article that I’ve just read gave a brief picture on how to empower yourself through colour, learn the art of creating a successful image. This is quite similar with a short grooming course that I’ve attended last year.

Every colour symbolized different meaning, this article stressed that colours attract attention, the proper use of colours help us project our professional image.

• Go to red, a friendlier colour, instead of black, if you wish to look younger.

Yellow is considered a happy colour and it can brighten or cheer us up.

Blue represents peacefulness, calmness, restfulness, high esteem, serenity, tranquility, truthfulness, coolness, formality, spaciousness, sadness and depression.

Off white is best for most complexions.

• Psychologically, grey evokes a sense of modesty, sadness or being old.

• While in business, navy gives the feeling of individual authority.

Colour tips to bring out the best in you

What you wear in a function is very important.

Do not use more than 3 colours in the main pieces of a clothing ensemble. Otherwise, you look like a Christmas tree and it will diminish your personality.

• If you are a shy person, incorporate red in your dressing in order to be taken more assertively.

• If you are overly aggressive, wear navy, beige, camel and grey in your main wardrobe pieces in order to tame your personality. It will make you appear to be more approachable.

• If you are a large person, tall and big-framed, you may want to introduce more beige, camel, grey and navy colours to your wardrobe.

• For ladies who use headscarves (tudung), avoid headscarves with prints on your baju kurung. Otherwise, you will look like a vegetable garden. Lighter plain coloured headscarves usually work very well with your baju kurung and kebaya.

To look slimmer, use dark and cool colours (navy, black, dark blue-violet, charcoal grey, chocolate brown, burgundy, olive and forest green).

• Know the backdrop if you are doing a presentation. If backdrop is a usual colour and you wear a very sharp colour, you’ll stand out. If backdrop is flamboyant and you wear something red, you are just one of the flowers in the background. If you wear brown and are on stage but don’t speak, you’ll just blend into the backdrop.

Don’t wear all black but use with other colours to make you look friendlier if that is what you want.

• If you have a strong personality, you may not want to use so much red. But if you use a lot of red, it sort of ‘fires’ you. You may feel a lot happier with a white or brown.

On top of that, just some brief messages from the Taiwan well-known Feng Shui consultant 雨杨
居士 (got this message from her recent programme in ASTRO AEC during CNY). Appropriate make up can bring luck to us in our daily life, also known as 开运彩妆 in Chinese. Similarly, different colour brings different meaning:-

Gold - Career (事业).
For info, gold is one of the hottest colour this year
Pink - Relationship (桃花运)
Purple - Elegance (贵气)
Blue - Wealth / Prosperity (偏财)
Green - Learning (学业), to apply green eye shadow when entering the exam hall.
White - Fame / Reputation (名利). In addition, according to
雨杨居士, wearing black & white can also build up your status in the society.

开运彩妆,打造完美面相

So, ladies & gentlement / boys & girls ... know yourself well and wear appropriately! 穿出自我... ^_^
