A long post is strongly needed today. I’ve been very busy trying to catch up all my works these few days, reached office as early as 8am & start working like a machine until my watch strike 6pm. Finally cleared everything before I can enjoy my holiday in KL tomorrow.
It’s been over for a week plus, but I still think I need to post this up, because it’s the most memorable event I’ve ever attended in PH – The “Baba & Nyonya Appreciation Nite”.
Before I start off with the details & showing-off of my photos, let me start with a little intro on this Baba Nyonya culture (just in case some of you don’t know). In a Peranakan culture, Baba refers to the male while Nyonya refers to the female. The romantic legend to this unique culture is one where Princess Hang Li Poh married Sultan Mansor Shah of Malacca. She was said to come with an entourage of 500 youths who later settled in Bukit Cina, Malacca and married the local women there. Hence their children, which are unifications of these 2 cultures, are the Babas and Nyonyas that we refer to today.
On 18 & 19 February 2008, our dynamic Sales & Marketing team, once again, successfully put in order a memorable event in appreciation of all our supportive clients & members.
This year’s annual appreciation cocktail party brought in more than 100 attendees who enjoyed our Baba & Nyonya delicacies. The best part of the night was our very own Fashion Show in “Baba Melaram & Nyonya Melenggang”. We, being the model of the night were so excited. Just a little secret to reveal, catwalk model was one of my dream job during my high school time. I love to be seen, love to catch everyone's attention and I guess I did it that night. =p
My eye-catching Nyonya costume --- Nyonya Creamy say 'Hi'!
Posing on the stage
All these glamorous costumes were proudly sponsored by Boutique Aziba Enterprise, Wawasan Plaza (Ground Floor).
Besides the stunning Fashion Show, everyone was entertained by a spectacular dance performance by the S&M team.
Can you catch which one is me?
It was a dance called Bocor-Bocor, which was fun. Just some simple steps will swing everyone into the hyper mood.
Every time when come to this kind of event, we couldn’t stop ourselves from taking pictures. There were never-ending photo shooting session before and after the event … lolz …
Pose for a pic before the event started.

If you are observant enough, you'll see I have different hair style on both nights. Special thanks to Alice from the Check-in Saloon (located at Promenade Hotel Ground Floor). Which hair style looks better on me?
As I always tell my family, the best thing working as hotelier is where I can try on many different costumes and outfits to suit the culture according to different theme of the event. A very good experience I should say. Besides being the Nyonya doll, I got the chance to try out Thailand costume this time.
See my pink Thailand costume? Coincidently got my favourite colour ... so happy! But this outfit isn't easy to wear, it needed at least 2 peoples to help you on the 'wrapping' & 'pinning'. Something like wearing a kimono, you won't be able to wear it yourself.
One for the album
The thorn among the flowers won the grand prize of the night -- Return ticket to Thailand.
